SUPing at Dolygaer: Beginner’s Know How

Stand up Paddle Boarding (SUP) became popular in the 1950’s in Hawaii. Think of it like surfing except you don’t need any waves and you have a big paddle to get you moving! It’s a much loved sport because it’s an all over body workout with minimal effort and with the help of our qualified instructors, standing up is easy!

You can SUP anywhere from sea, canals, lakes and reservoirs. At Parkwood Outdoors Dolygaer we’ll take you on the calm waters of the Pontsticill reservoir where you enjoy the stunning scenery whilst making a few splashes along the way.

What to wear during SUP?

We’ll get you kitted out in a wetsuit which will help to keep the cold out and you’ll be provided with a buoyancy aid should you decide to go for a splash.  It’s best to bring swimwear to put underneath the wetsuit and a pair of shorts to go over.  Wear comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

What to expect during a SUP session?

All of our friendly and trained SUP instructors will be with you all day to help you find your feet. You’ll be given a full run down of the equipment and how to use it and then it’s all systems go.  With group games and activities, you won’t have any time to think of anything else but FUN.  There will be chances for you to practice the techniques you’ve learnt early on, so that you can stand up on your own paddle board.

Bushcrafting at Dolygaer

First time bushcrafting?

Being in the wild is a wonderful experience but you’ll have a much better time if you know how to be wild in a safe way.  Essentially, bushcrafting skills are also known as survival skills. We’ll teach you how to survive the wild in a fun and practical way.

What bushcrafting skills should I learn?

Bushcrafting skills include; fire and shelter building, tracking skills, foraging, water gathering and purification. All of these skills are essential if you’re to survive a night in the wild!

Our introductory bushcrafting skills covers knife work as well as fire and shelter building.

We hope you will join us on 11th January for what promises to be a fun filled day of adventure!
